Theme
Building a caring and harmonious community in Shatin through promotion of family core values, positive living and neighborhood care.
Objectives
l To promote family core values in the Happy Family Campaign;
l To enhance resilience of individuals and family in facing challenges with a view to developing positive and happy life;
l To strengthen neighborhood support network through continuous promotion of the spirit of 'Green Ribbon*: Care and Share';
l To promote social inclusion and harmony by strengthening cross-sector collaboration.
Strategies
Strengthening Family Functioning
l Promote life education and positive living, advocate core values of family and build an inclusive community;
l Strengthen the volunteer network of 'Caring Family Ambassador' to support the needy and promote mutual support and neighborhood care;
l Strengthen support services to residents of new housing estates;
l Enhance the public's awareness of child abuse and family violence and prevent internet child sexual abuse and family violence through educational and promotional activities in the community;
l Provide emotional support to victims of family violence through 'Victim Support Programme for Victims of Family Violence' and continue to render support to families in crisis through promotion of 'Family Support Programme';
Facilitating Positive Development of Children and Youth to face Challenges
l Increase the awareness of the youth and their parents on addiction to and possible risks of cyber activities;
l Enhance collaboration among different sectors in the community to combat and prevent youth drug abuse;
l Consolidate the efforts in promoting mental health and life education to the youth;
l Cultivate young people's sense of mission and care to the community encouraging their active participation in community services, such as being a Green Ribbon-Shatin Youth Community Ambassador.
Strengthening Community Support for Elders and Promoting 'Positive ageing'
l Enhance community support network for the needy elders, including singleton elderly, aged couples and hidden elders, through partnership with different sectors;
l Strengthen collaboration between medical and welfare sectors in supporting the elderly in community through 'Caring for the Elderly Community Project;
l Extend the coverage of the District-based Scheme on Carer Training so as to further strengthen the support to carers of elders;
l Promote lifelong learning among the elders and their active participation in community affairs through continuous implementation of 'The Opportunities for the Elderly Project' so as to enhance their physical and mental wellness;
l Extend the promotion of 'Senior Citizen Card Scheme'.
Mental Health Promotion and Enhancement of Community Support to the Disabled
l Promote mental wellness in the community and strengthen partnership with medical professionals for early identification and support to persons with mental/emotional problems;
l Promote the services of the district-based Integrated Community Centre for Mental Wellness to provide one-stop support services for mental patients, persons with suspected mental health problems and their families / carers;
l Promote positive and healthy living, build a caring and harmonious community and enhance the awareness of mental wellness in the community through 'Green Ribbon - Caring and Loving Ambassador Project';
l Develop the potentials of people with disabilities and promote social inclusion in the community through strengthening collaboration with local organizations;
l Enhance the skills of front-line workers in providing professional services to the mentally ill through training.
Promoting Volunteerism and Building a Caring and Harmonious Community
l Develop and expand the district-based volunteer network;
l Promote the spirit of 'Neighborhood Support, Mutual Help and Care, Treasure of Life and Resilience Empowerment' in the community by stepping up efforts in promoting the 'Green Ribbon: Care and Share’ Campaign;
l Encourage families in the community to actively participate in volunteer work and organize Family Volunteers Award Presentation to echo the theme of 'One Family One Heart'of Volunteer Movement.
*'Green Ribbon: Care and Share' Campaign, since 2002, has been a collaborative movement of Shatin District Social Welfare Office, Non-government Organizations in Shatin, local organizations and members of the community in facilitating mutual support and neighborhood care in Shatin. The campaign also promotes the spirit of Green Ribbon: 'Neighborhood Support, Mutual Help and Care, Treasure of Life and Resilience Empowerment'
