Lotteries Fund allocates $107 million to welfare programmes

     The Lotteries Fund allocated $107,303,100 to finance various social welfare service programmes from April to June, 2005, a Social Welfare Department spokesman said today (August 11).

     "Of that total, $36,337,094 went to elderly and medical social services, $25,530,609 to rehabilitation services, $24,507,077 to family and child welfare, $12,697,569 to social welfare support, $7,904,274 to youth services and $326,477 to community development," the spokesman said.

     The fund was established to finance, by way of grants, loans or advances, the operation or development of social welfare services and medical or educational projects with a welfare content.
