CSSA caseload for October

    The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in October showed a marginal decrease of 0.1% (400 cases) over September, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (November 8).

     Total CSSA caseload at the end of October stood at 296,255, with a total of 523,163 welfare recipients. (see attached table, MSExcel Document).

     Analysed by case nature, the number of unemployment cases decreased by 0.8% to 38,724 cases.

     Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.6% in October to 38,727.

     Low earnings cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.3% in October to 18,421.
 
     Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was $17.6 billion for 2004-05.
