Victim Support for Child Abuse, Spouse Battering and Sexual Violence Cases

 

The Social Welfare Department has developed the website on support for victims of child abuse, spouse battering and sexual violence (http://victimsupport.swd.gov.hk) in Hong Kong to facilitate access to relevant information by concerned departments, agencies and individuals. Apart from the website, there are also different victim support services to help victims of child abuse, spouse battering and sexual violence cases, including:

Witness Support Programme

In strengthening support to the vulnerable witnesses in criminal proceedings, namely a child or a mentally incapacitated person, support persons would be arranged through the Witness Support Programme, set up jointly by the Department and the Police in November 1996, to accompany the vulnerable witnesses who have to give evidence in court through a live television link system, after obtaining the Court's permission.

  * Mutual Help Programmes for Victims of Spouse Battering
   

 

The four refuge centres for women namely the Wai On Home for Women, Serene Court, Sunrise Court and Harmony House, organize mutual help programmes for the residents/ex-residents. The telephone numbers of the four refuge centres are as follows:

Informaton Kit on Support Services to Victims of Spouse           Battering

   

With the support and assistance from 'Working Group on Combating Violence', various professions and government departments, Social Welfare Department has published a set of Information Kit on Support Services to Victims of Spouse Battering. This information kit aims at enhancing the victims' understanding on their rights and services, and to enhance the cross sector cooperation in combating domestic violence.
