Care and Attention Homes for the Aged Blind
Service Description It provides residential care, meals, personal care and limited nursing care for elderly blind persons who suffer from poor health or physical/mental disabilities with deficiency in activities of daily living but are mentally suitable for group living. (Some care & attention homes for the aged blind have infirmary care unit, in which the level of care provided is equivalent to infirmary.)
Eligibility for the Service To be eligible for the service, an applicant should be: |

persons aged 60 and above; |
 |
certified blind by a medical officer of the Eye Clinic or registered Ophthalmologist in private practice; |
 |
in need of personal care and attention in the course of daily living activities and are unable to live at home, but who also do not require intensive nursing care; |
 |
have a social or housing need and are unable to live independently in the community; |
 |
free from infectious disease or illness which may require intensive nursing care; |
 |
in poor health or suffering from functional disabilities to the extent that assistance in personal care and daily living is nessary; |
 |
ableto move around with a walking aid or in a wheelchair; and |
 |
mentally suitable for group living. |
Application Procedures Referrals can be made by social workers to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services of the Social Welfare Department.
Fees and Charges $1,605 per month for 50% disabled adults $1,813 per month for 100% disabled adults / Disability Allowance recipients
