Day Activity Centre

Service Description
It provides day care and training in daily living skills and simple work skills to mentally handicapped persons.  It trains them to become more independent in their daily lives, and prepares them for better integration into the community or for transition to other forms of service or care. 

Eligibility for the Service
To be eligible for the service, an applicant should be:
icon severely mentally handicapped persons;
icon aged 15 or above;
icon not bed-ridden or requiring infirmary care;
icon without severe aggressive behaviour endangering self and others; and
icon without infectious disease.

Application Procedures
Referrals can be made by social workers to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services of the Social Welfare Department.

Fees and Charges
The service is provided free-of-charge.

--Extended Care Programme

Service Description
For those trainees who could no longer benefit from prolonged or intensive training due to ageing or deterioration of health condition, 'Extended Care Programme' is being operated in some Day Activity Centres to provide simple rehabilitation training as well as social, leisure and developmental activities.

Services users of the Extended Care Programme should be:
icon 50 years old or above and receiving DAC&H service; and
icon

assessed by the Standardized Assessment for Residential Services for People with Disabilities to be eligible for HSMH or C&A/SD service.
