| Intensive Employment Assistance Projects for CSSA Single Parent Recipients and other Child Carers with young children under the New Dawn Project (ND IEAPs)
To assist the single parents and family carers on CSSA with the youngest child aged 12-14 to build their capacities for self-help and integrate into the community through employment, the Social Welfare Department (SWD) will launch a trial employment assistance project named the ¡¥New Dawn Project¡¦ from April 2006. Under the New Dawn Project, SWD will partner with NGOs running the second or third batch of IEAPs to provide intensive employment assistance, basic skills and skills upgrading training in the form of IEAP for recipients with no or limited work experience. The Department is now calling applications for project proposals to deliver services from April 2006 to September 2007. Applicant NGOs interested in seeking funding support for these 18-month projects are invited to attend a briefing session to be held on 4.11.2005 to understand more about the IEAPs before sending in their proposals. The closing date for submission of applications will be on 26 November 2005 (on or before 12:00 noon).

| The Jockey Club IT Scheme for People with Visual Impairment
To help people with visual impairment (PVI) to have access to the information technology for social inclusion, the Social Welfare Department, with the generous donation of over $7 millions from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charitable Trust, now launches the Jockey Club IT Scheme for People with Visual Impairment. The objectives of the Scheme are to support non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations providing services/ schooling to PVI and tertiary institutions to acquire advanced Chinese screen readers and Braille displays to facilitate PVI¡¦s surfing in the information world on Internet; and to subsidise individual PVI in need to purchase these devices for the purpose of studies or employment. Eligible organizational applicants will be invited by SWD to tender their applications. For individual applicants, their application must have nomination from rehabilitation units of SWD, subvented non-governmental rehabilitation organisations, the students affairs offices of local tertiary institutions, principals of local secondary schools, or Selective Placement Division of the Labour Department and should be submitted vide the designated form with the quotations of the concerned items by these nominating organizations. | Training Programme on Understanding of Family violence
The Social Welfare Department (SWD) invited related professionals and district personnel to join a two-day training programme on understanding of family violence.
To enhance the community¡¦s understanding and awareness of family violence, the SWD has commissioned the Hong Kong University Family Institute (HKUFI) and Sau Po Centre on Ageing to conduct a territory-wide Training Programme on Understanding of Family Violence named as . These training classes will be conducted in Tai Po, Tuen Mun, Kwun Tong, Wan Chai, Yuen Long, Tsuen Wan, Sha Tin and Yau Ma Tai from November 26, 2005 to January 26, 2006.
The training will provide more than 2400 places for related professionals and district personnel, including social workers, clinical psychologists, police officers, teachers, doctors, staff of Housing Department, District Council members, etc.
Through the training on the characteristics of different types of family violence, the handling procedures, related legislations etc., the programme aims to facilitate the frontline professionals and district personnel to identify family violence at an early stage and refer needy families to the appropriate services. The training content includes understanding on child abuse, spouse battering, elder abuse, gender sensitivity, the legal provisions on family violence, multi-disciplinary collaboration and district co-ordination.
The speakers of the training programme include social workers, clinical psychologist, paediatrician, gerontologist, psychiatrist, police officers, public prosecutors and academics.
The training will be conducted in Chinese, aided with English. An attendance certificate and CD ROM on the training content will be issued to all participants. Dates and venues of the training programmes are as follows:
