The Alert Response Level of Influenza Pandemic has been activated in Hong Kong. To assist all RCHEs in well-preparing for the possible activation of Serious Response Level or Emergency Response Level of Influenza Pandemic, our Department solicited the assistance from Department of Health (DH) and Hospital Authority (HA) to hold the Briefing Session on the Management Measures towards Avian Flu for all private residential care homes for the elderly (RCHEs) on 30.5.2006 (p.m.).  The purpose of the briefing session was to share with the RCHE sector about the preparedness plans of the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) and HA once human case(s) of Avian Flu is confirmed and the higher level response is generated.  The briefing also helped the RCHE sector understand the prevention and control work rendered by the Visiting Health Team of DH for RCHEs and draw up their own contingency measures pertinent to their setting.

The Rehabilitation and Medical Social Services Branch has issued an invitation letter dated 7 June 2006 to the NGOs (welfare) for their tendering of quality proposal for the operation of the following new rehabilitation project:

• the Integrated Rehabilitation Services Centre (IRSC) at Mei Tin Estate, Sha Tin.

Site visits and a briefing session will be held with schedules as follows:

1. 14 June 2006, 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. -
   site visit to the new IRSC at Mei Tin Estate;
   and
2. 14 June 2006, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. -
   a briefing session of the project at

Introduction

To support people with disabilities (PWD) to integrate into society,the Social Welfare Department (SWD) encourages them to engage in supported employment or open employment.  However, some PWD are confined to their homes due to physical disabilities or other reasons, affecting their opportunities to obtain supported employment or open employment.  For the above reasons, the SWD set up the Central Fund for Personal Computers in 1997 to assist PWD in acquiring personal computers for supported employment or self-employment at home.

Applicants have to file their applications through the rehabilitation service organizations or Selective Placement Division of the Labour Department. Applicants can mail the completed Application Form (in duplicate) to the Rehabilitation and Medical Social Services Branch of Social Welfare Department at Room 901, 9/F., Wu Chung House, 213 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai, Hong Kong or through their nominating organizations to tender their applications.  The nominating organizations and applicants will be informed in writing of the result of their applications.

The Task Group on Implementation of Integrated Family Service Centres (IFSCs) (Task Group), comprising representatives from all the nine Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating IFSCs, two NGOs operating the Integrated Services Centres in Tung Chung, 12 District Social Welfare Offices of Social Welfare Department (SWD) and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, was formed in May 2004 to discuss on operational issues and common areas of concerns arising from the implementation of IFSCs.  A total of seventeen Task Group meetings have been held between May 2004 and June 2006.  You may retrieve the notes of the meetings in the following section:

To meet the demand for Enrolled Nurses (General) and Enrolled Nurses (Psychiatric) in the welfare sector, the Social Welfare Department organises a two-year full-time welfare-oriented Enrolled Nurse (General) / Enrolled Nurse (Psychiatric) Training Programme, and the Hospital Authority is commissioned to provide the training.
