| Fourth Batch of Intensive Employment Assistance Projects and District Employment Assistance Trial Projects
The Social Welfare Department is going to commission non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to run the Fourth Batch of Intensive Employment Assistance Projects (IEAPs) and the District Employment Assistance Trial (DEAT) Projects in a two-year period from October 2006 to September 2008. The Project Vetting Committee has selected 40 projects for Fourth Batch of IEAPs and three DEAT Projects among a total of 113 proposals.

| Invitation for Proposals to Operate New Pre-school Rehabilitation Project
The Rehabilitation and Medical Social Services Branch has issued an invitation letter dated 22 September 2006 to the NGOs (welfare) for their tendering of quality proposal for the operation of the following new pre-school rehabilitation project:
- the Special Child Care Centre cum Early Education and Training Centre (SCCC cum EETC) at 1/F., Community Ambulatory Care Centre, Tang Shiu Kin Hospital
Site visits and a briefing session will be held with schedules as follows: - 29 September 2006, 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. -
site visit to the new SCCC cum EETC at 1/F., Community Ambulatory Care Centre, Tang Shiu Kin Hospital; and - 29 September 2006, 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. –
a briefing session of the project at Room 406, Lady Trench Training Centre, 44 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

| Electronic Magazine "Sky" to Promote Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities
With a view to promoting the employment opportunities and vocational rehabilitation services for people with disabilities, Social Welfare Department launched the first issue of the electronic magazine "Sky" in January 2006. | Casebook on Social Enterprises in Rehabilitation Field
To promote the employment of people with disabilities and the development of social enterprises in rehabilitation setting in Hong Kong, the Social Welfare Department has recently released a publication namely "Casebook on Social Enterprises in Rehabilitation Field" with the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and the Hong Kong Joint Council for People with Disabilities. The Casebook introduces the experience of social enterprises in Hong Kong rehabilitation field, aiming at promoting community understanding of the social enterprises and the work abilities of people with disabilities. | Invitation for Rehabilitation Service Agencie' Nomination for Certificate in Rehabilitation Services (2006-07) - In-service Certificate Training Course for Rehabilitation Personnel Working for People with Mental Handicap
To facilitate the workshop instructors, welfare workers and other staff working with people with disabilities in vocational rehabilitation, day and residential training settings of NGOs and Social Welfare Department (SWD) as well as residential homes operated by private organizations to acquire multi-skills and take an active role in developing the potential of people with mental handicap, the SWD has commissioned the Division of Social Studies, City University of Hong Kong to run the above-course. The course, which is funded by Queen Elizabeth Foundation for the Mentally Handicapped, is a 160-hour part-time course and will commence on 23 September 2006. The total number of place for this year is 80. Tuition fee of $500 is to be payable by the applicant when the application is accepted. Rehabilitation service agencies are invited to nominate suitable staff for this course and the application will be closed on 7 August 2006. | Task Group on Implementation of Integrated Family Service Centres
The Task Group on Implementation of Integrated Family Service Centres (IFSCs) (Task Group), comprising representatives from all the nine Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating IFSCs, two NGOs operating the Integrated Services Centres in Tung Chung, 12 District Social Welfare Offices of Social Welfare Department (SWD) and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, was formed in May 2004 to discuss on operational issues and common areas of concerns arising from the implementation of IFSCs. | The New Dawn Intensive Employment Assistance Projects (ND IEAPs)
The Social Welfare Department (SWD) has secured funding from the Lotteries Fund to commission non-government organisations (NGOs) to run 20 ND IEAPs from April 2006 to September 2007. The ND IEAPs aim at providing a package of intensive employment assistance services including basic skills and skills upgrading training to help Comprehensive Social Security Assistance single parent and child carer recipients with no or limited work experience build up capacities for self-help, integrate into the community through engagement in work and move towards self-reliance.
In response to our invitation for application for funding support to ND IEAPs late in 2005, a total of 55 proposals from 33 NGOs were received. The ND IEAPs Vetting Committee has now selected 20 projects to be implemented in 10 SWD Districts.

| Pilot Projects of Batterer Intervention Programme
In order to develop a systematic and localized group intervention model to meet the needs of batterers of domestic violence, two pilot projects of Batterer Intervention Programme developed by the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society and Social Welfare Department have been launched in March. These two projects will be completed by March of 2008.
