Oct 2006 Community Rehabilitation Day Centre Services

Community Rehabilitation Day Centre Services attached in the existing 5 Training and Activity Centres for Ex-MI have commenced services since 1 October 2006.  Community Rehabilitation Day Centre Services are a new community support providing outreaching occupational therapy training services to the ex-mentally ill persons living in the community in order to help them better integrate into the community.

Oct 2006 Feature Articles on Social Services in Yuen Long

To promote social services of Yuen Long in a positive way, Yuen Long District Social Welfare Office has arranged a series of feature articles on Ming Pao (NT West Edition).  Six editions (from July to December 2006) will cover services of Family and Child Protective Service Unit, Integrated Family Service Centre, Support Team for the Elderly, Social Security Field Unit, Youth Outreaching Service, Community Support Service for Ex-mentally Ill Persons.  The updated issues can be downloaded here. Oct 2006 Fourth Batch of Intensive Employment Assistance Projects and District Employment Assistance Trial Projects

The Social Welfare Department (SWD) is going to commission non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to run the Fourth Batch of Intensive Employment Assistance Projects (IEAPs) and the District Employment Assistance Trial (DEAT) Projects in a two-year period from October 2006 to September 2008. The Project Vetting Committee has selected 40 projects for Fourth Batch of IEAPs and three DEAT Projects among a total of 113 proposals.

Oct 2006 Invitation for Proposals to Operate New Pre-school Rehabilitation Project

The Rehabilitation and Medical Social Services Branch has issued an invitation letter dated 22 September 2006 to the NGOs (welfare) for their tendering of quality proposal for the operation of the following new pre-school rehabilitation project:

  • the Special Child Care Centre cum Early Education and Training Centre (SCCC cum EETC) at 1/F., Community Ambulatory Care Centre, Tang Shiu Kin Hospital

Site visits and a briefing session will be held with schedules as follows:

  1. 29 September 2006, 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. -
    site visit to the new SCCC cum EETC at 1/F., Community Ambulatory Care Centre, Tang Shiu Kin Hospital; and
  2. 29 September 2006, 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. ¡V
    a briefing session of the project at Room 406, Lady Trench Training Centre, 44 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

Service proposal of no more than 40 pages (A4 with font size at 13 and in 6 hard copies and 1 soft copy), should be sent on or before 20 October 2006 (Friday), 5:00 p.m. to the following address:

Oct 2006 Electronic Magazine "Sky" to Promote Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities

With a view to promoting the employment opportunities and vocational rehabilitation services for people with disabilities, Social Welfare Department launched the first issue of the electronic magazine "Sky" in January 2006.  The second issue of the electronic magazine is published. Oct 2006 Casebook on Social Enterprises in Rehabilitation Field

To promote the employment of people with disabilities and the development of social enterprises in rehabilitation setting in Hong Kong, the Social Welfare Department has recently released a publication namely "Casebook on Social Enterprises in Rehabilitation Field" with the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and the Hong Kong Joint Council for People with Disabilities.  The Casebook introduces the experience of social enterprises in Hong Kong rehabilitation field, aiming at promoting community understanding of the social enterprises and the work abilities of people with disabilities.  You are welcomed to download the Casebook here [Page1-19, Page20-43, Page44-61, Page62-78].  For enquiries, please contact Mr. LAU Ping-kei, Simon at 2892 5561 or Miss Agnes CHAN at 2892 5658.
Oct 2006 Task Group on Implementation of Integrated Family Service Centres

The Task Group on Implementation of Integrated Family Service Centres (IFSCs) (Task Group), comprising representatives from all the nine Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating IFSCs, two NGOs operating the Integrated Services Centres in Tung Chung, 12 District Social Welfare Offices of Social Welfare Department (SWD) and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, was formed in May 2004 to discuss on operational issues and common areas of concerns arising from the implementation of IFSCs.  A total of eighteen Task Group meetings have been held between May 2004 and September 2006.  You may retrieve the notes of the meetings in the following section:
