The department has designated an Access to Information Officer who is responsible for ensuring that requests by the public made under the Code on Access to Information held by the department are properly dealt with in accordance with the specified procedure.

General Enquiries on Social Services / Social Security
 * For general enquiries on social services/social security, please contact the Departmental Hotline at 2343 2255.  Telephone numbers of different offices of the department are also provided through the Departmental Hotline.

Ways to apply for information under the Code
 * Requests for information or records held by the department may be made by letter or application form obtainable from reception counters of the Headquarters, 11 District Offices of the department or at all District Offices of the Home Affairs Department.  Oral requests will also be accepted if the information sought is simple or readily available for distribution free of charge.

  The following two lists are available for public inspection on request :
* A list of information published or made available to the public free of charge or at cost
   
* A list of records by category and subject
The records in this list is not information published or made available to the public. It is only a broad description in general terms of the types of file records held by the department.
   
Photocopy charge
  Other than publications which are available free of charge, a photocopying charge set by the Treasury will be levied if an applicant wishes to obtain a copy.

The prevailing charge is HK $1.00 per photocopy for photocopying black and white on A3 or A4 size paper, unless otherwise provided by enactment or approved by the Secretary for the Financial Services and the Treasury. The same charge is applicable if the document is provided to the applicant through fax.

(In this context, a document usually means a booklet, a report, or an enclosure in a file.)
