Shatin District Annual Work

Theme

  • Caring & Mutual Help , Self-help & Self-reliance, Harmony & Integration

Objectives

  • Continue to work closely with Government departments and different sectors of the community in strengthening support to family, enhancing family functioning and encouraging the public to instill caring and mutual help spirit with a view to giving care and support to vulnerable groups and people in need;

  • Continue to promote the spirit of 'Green Ribbon' - mutual help and support at neighbourhood level, to strengthen resilience of individuals and families;

  • Step up efforts in facilitating/enhancing cross-sectoral collaboration and partnership to achieve harmony in the community

Strategy

          Strengthening Family Support:

  • Strengthen family life education programmes to enhance family functioning;

    Develop family support programmes and promote mutual help at neighbourhood level to achieve early identification of high-risk  and vulnerable families;

    Continue to launch activities for groups in need.

    Preventing and handling domestic violence:

  • Provide casework counseling and group therapy for families prone to domestic violence;

  • Provide continuous training and coordination in handling domestic violence for relevant professionals;

  • Disseminate the message of 'Harmonious Family' and 'Prevention of Domestic Violence' to the public.

    Enhancing the self confidence and   competence of children and youth and preventing youth problems:

  • Provide relevant services to support children and youths with special needs / from deprived families; 

  • Step up efforts in promoting youth mental health and strengthening resilience of youths;

  • Review on service needs of children and youths by maintaining regular liaison with service units as well as primary and secondary schools in the district; 

  • Heighten the awareness of youth and their parents on risks of cyber activities;

  • Echo the policy initiatives of combating and preventing abuse of psychotropic substances among youths.

    Strengthening support services for elders, promoting the spirit of respecting and loving elders:

  • Enhance outreaching services to elderly singletons and hidden elders;

  • Encourage service units to step up efforts in providing home care and day care services;

  • Strengthen training for carers of the elderly and mutual support among family members;

  • Encourage young olds of Sha Tin District to participate in volunteer services and help promote a sense of worthiness among them.

    Promoting mental health and strengthening relevant knowledge of front-line workers:

  • Promote the message of mental healthiness, family harmony and mutual support in the community through coordination with related service units;

  • Strengthen district-based support network for early identification of people with emotional problems; 

  • Provide counseling and group services to people in need in facing stress;

  • Continue to collaborate with medical professionals and rehabilitation service units to formulate  rehabilitation plan with the patient and their family members on enhancing their resilience and capabilities;

  • Enhance the skills of front-line workers in providing services to mentally-ill persons.

    Enhancing support service and encouraging people with disabilities in developing their potentials: 

  • Encourage people with disabilities to participate in community activities to  develop their potentials and strengthen their self-confidence; 

  • Continue to collaborate with local organizations and business sectors in providing employment opportunity for people with disabilities so as to advocate social integration;

  • Mobilise rehabilitation service units to provide one-stop community support services to carers of people with disabilities.

    Promoting volunteerism and building a caring community: 

  • Strengthen the district-based network in promoting volunteerism;

  • Promote the activities of volunteer movement and echo the theme of 'One Family One Heart' through encouraging families of the district to join volunteer services;

  • Continue to step up efforts in promoting volunteerism and encourage people from different sectors to serve the community.
