    Administration

    Q1: Can I submit my personal resume and inquire if there is any job suitable for me in the Social Welfare Department?
    A1: Vacancies for posts in Hong Kong Civil Service will be advertised in the local press (the Ming Pao Daily News) on a Saturday and in the Job Centre of the Employment Services Division of Labour Department. Vacancies will also be publicized in the HKSAR Government Information Centre on the internet (http://www.info.gov.hk). You should apply for a post in response to such an advertisement, following the procedures therein.

    Please also note the introduction of the two initiatives to raise the language proficiency of new civil service recruits from January 2003. For details, please visit the Civil Service Bureau website as follows -

    Q2: I would like to know whether my overseas academic qualifications are comparable to local academic qualifications in academic standard.
    A2: You can submit your overseas academic qualification to the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation for assessment. For enquiries, please phone 2801 7480. 

     

    Q3: Can my previous experience be granted salary increment if I join the Social Welfare Department?
    A3: Whether to grant Incremental Credit for Experience to new appointees depends on the need of each recruitment exercise. Please note the remarks in the advertisements if any. 

     

    Q4: What can I do if I am not satisfied with the services of the Department? 
    A4: You can write to the Director of Social Welfare or the relevant District Social Welfare Officer. Or you can email us at swdenq@swd.gov.hk. To facilitate our investigation and follow up action, please provide detailed information such as the name of the concerned office/staff, date and time, etc. Your name and contact telephone or address are also needed. All complaints will be dealt with impartially and expeditiously.

     

    Q5: Where can I obtain service information of the Department?  
    A5: Useful information of the Department can be found in our homepage. Printed copies of our performance pledges are distributed at our district offices. On policy matters, you can write to or email our respective service branches. On direct services, you can contact our district offices or call our hotline 2343 2255. 

     

     Q6: What can I do if I am not satisfied with the services offered by the subvented non-governmental organizations?  
     A6: You can lodge your complaint directly to the Executive Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the concerned non-governmental organizations.  If you are still not satisfied with the result of the investigation, you may write to the Department giving the details, including your name, address, telephone number for our follow up.  In order to have a fair investigation, the Department will not handle anonymous complaints or complaints known to the aggrieved complainants for 2 years or over. 

      

    Q7: How many standing boards and committees are there under the purview of the Social Welfare Department? 
    A7: There are seven standing boards and committees under the purview of the Social Welfare Department as listed below - 
    (1) Lotteries Fund Advisory Committee;
    (2) Traffic Accident Assistance Advisory Committee; 
    (3) Advisory Committee on Social Work Training and Manpower Planning; 
    (4) Social Work Training Fund Committee; 
    (5) Emergency Relief Fund Committee;
    (6) Criminal and Law Enforcement Injuries Compensation Boards; and 
    (7) Social Security Appeal Board
