CSSA caseload for January

    The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in January shows a decrease of 0.4% (1,027 cases) over December, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (February 6).

    Total CSSA caseload at the end of January stood at 287,118 (see attached table), with a total of 495,733 recipients. 

    Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases showed a continued decrease of 1.8% in January to 32,301.

    Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.5% in January to 36,865.
 
    Low earning cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.8% to stand at 17,083.

    Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $17.6 billion for 2006-07.
