CSSA caseload for May

    The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in May showed a decrease of 0.2% (610 cases) over April, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (June 4).

    Total CSSA caseload at the end of May stood at 284,380 (see attached table), with a total of 488,902 recipients. 

    Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases showed a continued decrease of 0.5% in May to 31,126.

    Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.2% in May to 36,520.
 
    Low earning cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.4% to stand at 16,721.

    Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $17.6 billion for 2006-07.
