| Launching of the Pilot Project on Child Fatality Review on 15 February 2008
To facilitate the improvement of inter-sector collaboration and multi-disciplinary cooperation, and to enhance the current child welfare service systems for achieving the objective of prevention of child death, the Social Welfare Department has launched the Pilot Project on Child Fatality Review. The Director of Social Welfare has appointed 14 professionals and independent persons from different sectors to serve the Review Panel from 15 February 2008 to 14 February 2010. The Review Panel is responsible for reviewing all cases of children died of non-natural causes. Under this mechanism, the Secretariat of the Review Panel will collect relevant information from those service organisations or units that had had contact with the deceased child and/or his/her family members for review purpose. | "SEPD - Let Them Shine" Drama Script Competition
Marketing Consultancy Office (Rehabilitation) of Social Welfare Department has organized a “SEPD - Let Them Shine” Drama Script Competition. "SEPD" is a brand that has been employed to represent the working qualities of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The Competition aims to enhance public awareness and understanding of PWDs vocational rehabilitation and working capabilities that in turn promote a positive attitude and support towards PWDs products and services. There are two divisions in the Competition open for students and general public respectively. Two winning scripts from each division will be selected and offer a cash prize of HK$5,000 (student division) or HK$8,000 (open division) plus trophy. Winning scripts will also be invited for open performance in Aug 2008. Interested parties please submit application form with story outline before 18th February 2008 and submit script on or before 5th May 2008. | Revision of Payment Rates under the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) and Social Security Allowance (SSA) Schemes
The Finance Committee of the Legislative Council has approved an inflation-related increase of 2.8% in the rates of standard payments under the CSSA Scheme and the Disability Allowance under the SSA Scheme with effect from 1 February 2008.
