Respite services provide elderly persons living in the community with short-term day care or residential care. They provide relief for carers so that they may take short-term breaks or attend to other matters when required. They aim at encouraging and helping elderly persons to continue living in the community for as long as possible.
Day Respite Service is provided by all subsidised day care centres / units for the elderly (DEs / DCUs). Service provision is from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Mondays to Saturdays (Individual centres / units provide extended hours service). Users of day respite service do not need to be assessed under the Standardised Care Need Assessment Mechanism for Elderly Services. Elderly persons or their carers can approach DEs / DCUs direct for enquiry and application. Applicants may also request referrals through Integrated Family Service Centres / Integrated Services Centres, Medical Social Services Units, District Elderly Community Centres and Neighbourhood Elderly Centres.
