RESIDENTIAL CARE SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY

 $d The Social Welfare Department administers a licensing system to regulate residential care homes for the elderly under the Residential Care Homes (Elderly Persons) Ordinance.

Residential care services for elders aim to provide residential care and facilities for elders aged 65 or above who, for personal, social, health and/or other reasons, cannot adequately be taken care of at home. Persons aged between 60 and 64 may apply if there is a proven need.

Purpose and Objectives
The objectives of residential care services for elders are:

(a)

 to provide residential care and facilities for those who, for personal, social, health and/or other reasons, are unable to live at home;

(b)

 to promote and maintain the health of elders as far as possible, and assist them with their varying personal care needs and daily living activities; and

(c)

 to meet the social and recreational needs of residents and promote interpersonal relationship among residents in the homes.


Types of Residential Care Homes
Varying types of residential care homes are set up to meet different care needs of elders.
