Day Activity Centre
Service Description
It provides day care and training in daily living skills and simple work skills to mentally handicapped persons. It trains them to become more independent in their daily lives, and prepares them for better integration into the community or for transition to other forms of service or care.
Eligibility for the Service
To be eligible for the service, an applicant should be: |

severely mentally handicapped persons; |
 |
aged 15 or above; |
 |
not bed-ridden or requiring infirmary care; |
 |
without severe aggressive behaviour endangering self and others; and |
 |
without infectious disease. |
Application Procedures
Referrals can be made by social workers to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services of the Social Welfare Department. The application is free of charge. The applicant should report to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) immediately in case anyone offers to assist in application for placement in return for remuneration. Attempted bribery by any person is also an offence in law, SWD will refer the case to ICAC for investigation.

--Extended Care Programme
Service Description
For those trainees who could no longer benefit from prolonged or intensive training due to ageing or deterioration of health condition, 'Extended Care Programme' is being operated in some Day Activity Centres to provide simple rehabilitation training as well as social, leisure and developmental activities.
