Central Psychological Support Service (Pre-school Service)

INTRODUCTION


Central Psychological Support Service, Pre-school Service (CPSS(PS)) aims at promoting the psychological well-being of pre-school children with special education needs (SEN) and their parents/major care-givers.  It provides consultation and support services which aim at facilitating children’s adjustment in school and enhancing the parents and/staff’s skills in working with them.      Since 1st August 2019, the service has been extended to the provision of in-depth psychological treatment for these children and their families in need.

OBJECTIVES

(a)    To facilitate the adjustment of children with SEN in the school/training environment; 

(b)    To help parents deal with the challenges of taking care of children with SEN by strengthening their parenting skills and stress management;

(c)    To work on emotional, marital and/or other family problems of these parents;

(d)    To enrich the perspectives and strengthen the skills of staff in working with children with SEN and their families;

(e)    To give advice on improvement of service for children with special education needs.


TARGET GROUPS

(a)    Pre-school children with special education needs under Integrated Programmes (IP) in Kindergarten-cum-Child Care Centres (ICCC), Early Education & Training Centres (EETC) and Special Child Care Centres (SCCC) operated by the subvented sectors not allocated with agency-based clinical psychological service 

(b)    Parents and major caregivers of (a)

(c)    Special Child Care Workers /  kindergarten teachers of (a)


SERVICES

Clinical psychologists of CPSS(PS) pay visits to rehabilitation units when there is service need. Services include:

(a)    To provide consultation and training to caregivers of pre-school children with SEN;

(b)    To provide in-depth psychological treatment for children with SEN and their parents/major caregivers who are assessed to be in need; 

(c)    To provide consultation and training for Special Child Care Workers/teachers who work directly with children with SEN.


ACCESS TO SERVICES

Service is arranged by referral from the aforementioned pre-school rehabilitation units.  Parents of children with special education needs please contact the concerned pre-school service units for further information and service arrangement.

SERVICE CHARGE

The service is provided free of charge.

Central Psychological Support Service (Adult Service)

INTRODUCTION

Central Psychological Support Service,  Adult Service (CPSS(AS)) aims at promoting the psychological well-being and quality of life of persons with developmental disabilities (PWDDs) in Hong Kong. It provides direct psychological support services to PWDDs and their caregivers as well as consultation and training services which aim at enhancing caregiving systems for PWDD. From 2019.8.1 onwards, CPSS(AS) launches the Life Transition Support Service (LTSS) which focuses on providing essential and timely psychological support for PWDDs and their caregivers at important life transitions and over related issues along their course of life.

OBJECTIVES

(a)    to promote general psychosocial well-being and quality of life of PWDDs and their caregivers across various stages of life; 

(b)    to promote the development of individualized long-term care plan and facilitate smoother life transitions for PWDDs and their families;

(c)    to enrich the perspectives and skills of   staff caregivers in service delivery for service users and the family caregivers; 

(d)   to contribute to the continuous improvement in the training activities and programmes of rehabilitation services.


TARGET GROUPS

(a)    Persons with developmental disabilities who are users of rehabilitation services under government’s subvention and not currently served by any clinical psychologist, including Day Training, Vocational Rehabilitation Service and Residential Services for intellectually / physically disabled person.

(b)    Family and staff caregivers of PWDD of (a)


SERVICES

Clinical psychologists of CPSS(AS) pay regular visits to rehabilitation units. Services provided include:

(a)    Case assessment, consultation,  and treatment 
(b)    Life Transition Support Service 
(c)    Family and staff caregiver training 
(d)    Service consultation 
(e)    Project/Service tools development

The service is provided free of charge
