Highlights of the Year 2024-25

Casework Service

  • Participated in InnoEX 2024 from 13 to 16 April 2024 by setting up a dedicated booth at the Smart Hong Kong Pavilion to showcase the innovative virtual reality solution developed by the Social Welfare Department for enhancing psychological trauma treatment.
  • Expanded the use of group-based interventions to support service users with a wide range of mental health challenges, conducting a total of 21 treatment groups. Notable examples included the Brain-based Parenting Group, Parent Group for Parents with Transgender Adolescent or Adult Children, Therapeutic Parent-Child Play Group, Strong Brain Training Group, and Mindful Self-Compassion Group.
  • Produced “My Reflective Journal” and ‘The Unique Me – Affirmation Cards” as adjunctive therapy materials to help children and youth build confidence, cultivate a positive mindset, and foster self-acceptance.

Central Psychological Support Service (Adult Service)

  • Continued to enhance service quality by developing, expanding and refining clinical tools, training programmes, and treatment groups for service users and their carers.
  • Revised and implemented the “Life Skills Programme”, with a focus on exploring alternative vocational pathways within sheltered workshops.  Treatment groups, covering a variety of issues, were conducted for persons with developmental disabilities (PWDDs), notably addressing their intimacy needs and promoting the cognitive health of elderly PWDDs.

Central Psychological Support Service (Pre-school Service)

  • Produced a new version of the service introduction brochure, titled “Walking Together – Clinical Psychology Service Supporting the Growth of Children with Special Needs”, delineating the service delivery model. The brochure is available on the SWD website for public access.
  • Conducted training sessions for kindergarten social workers from different districts to enhance support for children with special needs, covering topics such as the application of trauma-informed care and effective management of preschoolers’ intense emotions in their daily practice. 
  • Conducted treatment groups for parents of preschoolers with special needs to promote resilience and positive parenting skills, and held therapeutic play groups to strengthen parent-child relationships. 

Public Psychoeducation

  • Participated in two RTHK1 radio programmes, totaling eight episodes, as featured guests to promote mental health; and published Issues 5 and 6 of the half-yearly CPSB Newsletter, covering wellness topics such as sleep and the use of technology. 
  • Produced the “Effective Learning Resource Package”, comprising 11 short animated videos addressing study-related stress among students. Promotional folders and leaflets were distributed to 459 secondary schools.
  • Produced the “Window of Tolerance” leaflet and promotional folders, offering tips on expanding one’s emotional processing threshold to better cope with life challenges.
  • Participated in four media interviews to heighten public awareness of SWD CP services, and introduce the pilot project on the use of virtual reality technology for enhancing psychological trauma treatment.  

Early Psychological Intervention

  • Responded to four critical incidents in the community by deploying the mobile support station to offer on-site emotional support to affected individuals and delivering post-crisis stress management talks.

Professional Training

  • Throughout the year, a total of 84 professional training courses and workshop were conducted.
