District Highlights 2024-2025

Promoting Awareness of Physical, Mental, and Emotional Well-Being

  • Through the “Well-being Starts with Sham Shui Po Movement”, the Sham Shui Po District Social Welfare Office (DSWO)  promoted awareness of physical and mental health in the community by featuring diverse activities organised by 20 participating service units, as well as the district’s signature event,「Chill 有里『深』嘉年華」, held at Maple Street Playground on 23 November 2024.  Activities included intergenerational performances by seniors and children, a community-wide high-five challenge, athlete sharing sessions, emerging sports experiences, art therapy activities, and booth games to promote mental health and foster a friendly community.  Approximately 2 000 community members participated in the booths and the high-five challenge.
  • In addition, three small locality collaboration projects, namely the Cheung Sha Wan Small District Collaboration Project @ 鄰住Chill, the Nam Cheong/Fu Cheong Small District Collaboration Project @ Give Me 5, and the Lai Kok/Lai On Small District Collaboration Project @「深」動麗閣, brought together cross-sectoral organisations in the community to promote mental health and raise residents’ awareness of local welfare resources through a series of activities.  In 2024-25, the three projects collectively organised 37 themed activities and two carnivals, serving over 2 000 participants.

Strengthening Support for Carers

  • Three “Clusters of Elderly Centres” and the “Platform for Strengthening Support to Persons with Disabilities in Sham Shui Po” (the Platform) promoted the “Care the Carers Campaign” by organising a variety of activities catering to the needs of different groups of carers.  The Platform also hosted an Open Week in November 2024 for carers of persons with disabilities, offering them opportunities to visit rehabilitation service units in the district.  Ten rehabilitation units in the district participated in the Open Week, attracting approximately 200 attendees.

Promoting Career Planning for Young People

  • Since 2013, the DSWO has collaborated with the business sector and social welfare organisations to organise the “Job Shadowing Mentorship Programme”.  Mentees participating in the Programme visited their mentors’ workplaces during the summer holidays to experience real-life work environments and be inspired by their mentors’ success stories, thereby motivating them to chart their own career paths.  In 2024-25, a total of 73 mentors from 51 business and industrial organisations were recruited and paired with 136 participating youths.

Continuously Building Support Networks

  • Two Community Networking Projects, namely “Caring for Nam Cheong” and “Supporting Our Neighbourhood”, continued to be implemented in collaboration with local welfare organisations to support residents living in private tenements/inadequate housing, and low-income families.  In 2024-25, both projects received support from multiple businesses, including donations of small household appliances from electrical appliance merchants, and food vouchers from a noodle shop.  In addition, free Chinese medicine consultations were provided by a Chinese medicine clinic, and pest control products were supplied by a participating organisation.  Through outreach visits and mobile booths, these projects engaged nearly 2 000 low-income residents, identified approximately 110 new families with service needs, and provided free medical services to around 90 low-income individuals.
  • The “Working Group for Promoting Volunteer Service in Sham Shui Po” was established in partnership with six cross-sectoral organisations to promote the sustainable development of volunteerism in the district.  The 2024-25 annual theme focused on promoting mental health, featuring volunteer training programmes, thematic service programmes, and a volunteer recognition ceremony. The thematic service programmes engaged over 270 volunteers, benefiting more than 1 100 individuals. The volunteer recognition ceremony presented over 700 certificates of appreciation in total.
