Annual District Highlights
District Highlights 2023-2024
Strengthening Support for Carers
- The “Care the Carers Campaign” was promoted through the “Well-being Starts with SSP Movement”, which included the district’s signature event, “Supporting Carers.Happiness Mobile Van” held on 18 November 2023. On that day, the “Happiness Mobile Van” visited four housing estates in the district, showcasing the “Carers of SSP” video produced by the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO). Mobile booths were also set up and experiential activities were organised to promote the message of supporting carers.
- A variety of activities tailored to the needs of different groups of carers were organised through the “Platform for Strengthening Support to Persons with Disabilities in SSP” (the Platform) and the three “Clusters of Elderly Centres”. In November 2023, the Platform hosted an Open Week for carers of persons with disabilities, providing them with an opportunity to visit eight rehabilitation service units in the district.
Caring and Social Inclusion
- The “Working Group for Promoting Volunteer Service in SSP” was established in partnership with six cross-sectoral organisations. In 2023-24, the Working Group organised activities that focused on the theme of social inclusion.
- Cross-sectoral organisations in the district were engaged to implement three small locality collaboration projects. These projects launched a series of diverse activities aimed at building a harmonious and caring community for the residents.
Promoting Career Planning for Young People
- Since 2013, the DSWO has collaborated with the business sector and relevant social welfare organisations to organise the “Job Shadowing Mentorship Programme.” Mentees participating in the Programme visit their mentors’ workplaces during the summer break to learn about real work environments. Mentors share their success stories with the young participants, inspiring them to chart their own career path.
Continuous Building of Support Networks
- Two Community Networking Projects: “Caring for Nam Cheong” and “Supporting Our Neighbourhood” continued to be implemented jointly with local welfare organisations to support grassroots families and individuals residing in private tenements/inadequate housing. This year, both projects received support from multiple businesses in the form of food vouchers and free traditional Chinese medical consultations for the residents.
