Working Together to Protect Children and Families

Building Cross-Sector Collaboration to Promote Youth Mental Health
- From June 2024, the Tuen Mun Local Committee on Services for Young People (LC) organised a series of programmes to enhance young people’s resilience, positive thinking, and problem-solving skills. To promote cross-sector collaboration among medical, social and education professionals in supporting youth mental health, the LC collaborated with the Tuen Mun District School Development Section of Education Bureau and the Tuen Mun District Health Centre to held seminars for social workers and teaching staff in October and November 2024.
Promoting Mutual Assistance and Social Inclusion in the Community

Additionally, the Tuen Mun District Social Welfare Office worked with local rehabilitation units to enhance the understanding of residents in new public housing estates regarding rehabilitation and community support services, and to raise their awareness of mental health, thereby fostering an inclusive and caring community.
Strengthening Support for Elderly Persons and Promoting Age-friendliness
- A working group under the Tuen Mun District Co-ordinating Committee on Elderly Services (DCCES) was established to promote healthy aging and to help the young-old develop their talents and contribute to society. The young-old were recruited and trained as volunteers, known as “Joyful Aunts” and “Happy Uncles”, to participate in community services, thereby strengthening mutual support in the neighborhood and fostering a spirit of positivity among seniors.
Supporting Carers of Elderly Persons and Persons with Disabilities
- The “Together. We Support” Working Group, jointly established under the DCCES and the DCCRS, organised a series of cross-sector and district-wide activities to strengthen support for carers of elderly persons and PwDs, fostering a carer-friendly environment.
