District Elderly Community Centre (DECC)

District Elderly Community Centre (DECC) is a type of community support services at district level to enable elderly persons to remain in the community and to lead a healthy, respectful and dignified life. DECCs also collaborate with other service units in the district and cooperate to build a caring community with better use of community resources.

Support Teams for the Elderly (STEs), attached to DECCs, provide elders with concern and assistance so that they can live actively in the community under this support network. They also promote senior volunteerism to encourage elders to become volunteers, to be continuously involved in social affairs and to serve other elders in need so as to promote the sense of worthiness.

Fees and Charges

It is free of charge for the service users to receive telephone contacts, home visits and personal assistance from Support Teams for the Elderly. However, service users have to pay the traveling expenses for themselves and those for the volunteers in escort service. Also, they have to pay the material and traveling expenses for the volunteers if they use the household repairing services. For those who have financial difficulty, Support Teams for the Elderly may refer them for financial assistance.

Apart from handling direct applications for long term care services and /or counselling service for elderly persons living in the community, DECC and NEC also receive referrals from Integrated Family Service Centre/Integrated Services Centre and Medical Social Services Unit etc. for elderly persons in need of the above-mentioned services. Social Centres for the Elderly

Social Centres for the Elderly (SEs) organize social and recreational activities for elders in the community to help them make constructive use of their leisure time, develop their potentials through learning and build social networks.
