Enrolled Nurse Training Programme for the Welfare Sector
To alleviate the shortage of nurses in residential care homes and meet the demand of the sector in the foreseeable future, the Government will subsidise an additional 1 700 or more students to enrol in Enrolled Nurse (EN) (General) training in the next 5 years (2023-24 to 2027-28 academic years) under the EN Training Programme for the Welfare Sector. The number of institutes commissioned to provide the Training Programme has been increased from 1 to 3, offering a total of 427 training places in 2023- 24, more than double the number in the academic year of 2022-23, which was 200. By the close of the application period in March 2023, the 3 institutes received over 4 500 applications for admission to the 2023-24 cohort of the Training Programme.
