Residential Child Care Services

Introduction 

Operated by subvented non-governmental organisations, residential child care services provide transitional residential care and protection for children and young persons under the age of 21 who temporarily cannot be adequately cared for by their families due to family crises, behavioural or emotional problems.

Types of Services

Non-Institutional Care includes:

• Foster Care - for children under 18 years of age
• Foster Care (Emergency) - for children under 18 years of age and in need of care due to emergency or crisis situation
• Small Group Homes - for children from 4 to 18 years of age
• Emergency / Short-term Care in Small Group Home - for children from 4 to under 18 years of age

Institutional Care includes:

• Residential Child Care Centres (Residential Creches) - for children under 3 years of age
• Residential Child Care Centre (Residential Nursery) - for children from 3 to under 6 years of age
• Residential Child Care Centre - for children under 6 years of age and in need of emergency residential care service
• Children's Reception Centre - for children under 18 years of age
• Children's Homes - for children and young persons from 6 to under 21 years of age
• Boys' Home / Girls' Home – for children and young persons from 7 to under 21 years of age with behavioural or emotional problems. (Remarks: Schools for Social Development are run within some of these homes)
• Boys' Hostel / Girls' Hostel – for young persons from 14 to under 21 years of age with behavioural or emotional problems who are studying or working

Application
