Parents / Relatives Resource Centre

Description

At present, there are a total of 19 subvented Parents / Relatives Resource Centres (PRCs), including one centre designated for ex-mentally ill people and five of which have been set up with specialised ethnic minority (EM) units1. Its objective is to provide community support for the parents and relatives / carers of persons with disabilities. Parents and relatives / carers would learn how to take care of their family members with disabilities or with difficulties on upbringing, exchange experience and establish mutual support.

PRCs with specialised EM units will also provide tailored services for EM service users in view of their language barrier and cultural difference to facilitate and encourage their use of community services to meet their needs and to promote social inclusion.

Target Group

Parents, relatives and carers of persons with disabilities (including persons in mental recovery / persons with mental health needs)

Nature of Service

  • Support services such as individual, group and mass activities;
  • Resource materials; and
  • Community education programmes.

Application Procedure

Application can be made directly to the service units.

Fees and Charges

Family membership fee is $21 per annum.

1 EM service users not living in the districts served by PRCs with specialized EM units may make use of the services of those PRCs with specialised EM units in the nearby districts.  Regardless of the provision of specialised EM units, all PRCs shall provide non-discriminatory services for EM service users.
