Eligibility criteria

Application for Traffic Accident Victims Assistance

Answer：
Every application must satisfy the following conditions in order to be eligible for TAVA :

  • the accident must fall within the scope of the Traffic Accident Victims (Assistance Fund) Ordinance, Cap. 229 of the Laws of Hong Kong, and has been reported to the Police；
  • the victim was legally permitted to remain in Hong Kong at the time of the accident;
  • application must be made within 6 months after the date of the accident; and
  • the traffic accident happened before 00:00 am on 28 June 2025, and the victim died/sustained permanent disability from the accident, or the injury sustained by the victim gave rise to at least 3 days’ hospitalisation/sick leave as certified by a registered medical practitioner or registered Chinese medicine practitioner; or
  • the traffic accident happened at or after 00:00 am on 28 June 2025, and the victim died/sustained permanent disability from the accident; or the injury sustained by the victim gave rise to at least 7 days' hospitalisation/sick leave as certified by a registered medical practitioner or registered Chinese medicine practitioner.
