Information Technology (IT) Strategy for the Social Welfare Sector (the “IT Strategy”)
The Social Welfare Department (SWD), in consultation with the Social Welfare Advisory Committee and the Legislative Council Panel on Welfare Services, has formulated the information technology (IT) strategy for the social welfare sector in 2001. Further reviews of IT strategy for the social welfare sector were later completed by SWD in 2004 and 2013 respectively. In 2019, on the advice of JCIT, SWD commissioned consultants to conduct a new round of review of IT Strategy for the social welfare sector in Hong Kong. The Review was completed in February 2021. JCIT also endorsed the four strategies for further IT development in the social welfare sector as recommended by the Review, comprising strengthening IT planning and governance, promoting e-Services through the adoption of new technology, enhancing data security and IT security awareness, and enhancing collaboration among non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in common application development.
