Day Activity Centre (DAC)

Service Description

It provides day care and training in daily living skills and simple work skills to mentally handicapped persons. It trains them to become more independent in their daily lives, and prepares them for better integration into the community or for transition to other forms of service or care.

Eligibility for the Service

To be eligible for the service, an applicant should be:

  • severely mentally handicapped persons;
  • aged 15 or above;
  • not bed-ridden or requiring infirmary care;
  • without severe aggressive behavior endangering self and others; and
  • without infectious disease.

Application Procedures

Referrals can be made by social workers to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services of the SWD.  The application is free of charge.

Free. 

Extended Care Programme (ECP)

For those trainees who could no longer benefit from prolonged or intensive training due to ageing or deterioration of health condition, ECP is being operated in some Day Activity Centres to provide simple rehabilitation training as well as social, leisure and developmental activities.  The eligibility for ECP:

  • 50 years old or above and receiving DAC cum Hostel service; and
  • assessed by the Standardised Assessment for Residential Services for People with Disabilities to be eligible for Hostel for Severely Mentally Handicapped Persons or Care and Attention Home for Severely Disabled Persons service.
