Background

Policy Agenda of the Chief Executive's 2017 Policy Address announced a series of initiatives to enhance the provision of dementia community care and support services. The Social Welfare Department (SWD) from September 2018 has launched a 3-year "Dementia Friendly Community Campaign" (the Campaign) with the aim of promoting public awareness on dementia in Hong Kong. The series of public education programmes under the Campaign include Announcements in the Public Interest in television and radio, a thematic webpage, commissioning a specialised agency to organize internationally recognised "Dementia Friends" Information Sessions, 8 television episodes on dementia broadcasted in late January 2019, a Highlight Event on 26 January 2019 and related district activities organised by all district social welfare offices of SWD. The goal is to build a dementia friendly community for persons with dementia and their carers. In view of the positive feedback and support received from different sectors of the society since the implementation of the Campaign, SWD has extended the Campaign till March 2023.
