Handbook for Parents 1
Impact of separation and divorce
Confronting your emotions
Separation/divorce may bring you a chain of emotions:
- Exhaustion – separation/divorce arrangements can be very stressful leading to fluctuation in emotion.
- Sorrow/Anger – Failure in the marriage may bring you down, or even bring resentment towards each other.
- Worry – The uncertainty for the future, and the impacts it will have on your children.
- Guilt – Guilt towards your children and ex-partner.
Majority of people are aware of their unstable and overly sensitive emotions, and these feelings may strike anytime. Although we can’t control how we feel, we have the ability to choose how to react to it. Keep in mind that how you manage your own emotions and how you treat your ex-partner will have direct impact on how your children adjust to this separation/divorce.
